Canadian Non-Restricted Firearms Safety Course (PAL)

The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) was developed in partnership with the provinces and territories, national organizations with an ongoing interest in firearms safety, and many firearms and hunter education course instructors from across Canada.  This course is a requirement for those individuals wishing to acquire non-restricted firearms such as rifles and shotguns.  Most common for those wanting to hunt with a rifle or shotgun.  The course is specifically designed to progress at a reasonable pace to allow someone with limited or no prior firearms experience to successfully pass the government approved tests, which are taken the same day.    Students will develop skills and knowledge in the following areas: The evolution of firearms, major parts, types and actions, handling and using firearms in a safe manner, social responsibilities of firearms owners, ammunition, storage, display, and transportation laws for non-restricted firearms.

Students must present a government issued photo ID when they are checking in for the course.

This is a 1 day course commencing at 8:00 am and concluding at 5:00 pm.  Students are requested to be at the WGT Consulting classroom by 7:30 am on the day of the course.

The final examination consists of a written exam and a practical test.  The written exam is made up of 50 questions, all of which are “true or false” or “multiple-choice”.  The practical examination consists of a series of actions that the instructor will ask you to perform with various types of firearms in order to demonstrate that you are proficient in the safe handling of firearms in different scenarios.

In order to pass the examination you must get a score of 80% or better on both components of the examination to be able to apply for a Non-restricted Possession and Acquisition License (P.A.L).
