Canadian Non-Restricted Firearms Safety Course (PAL)
This course is a combination of the Ontario Hunter Education Course and the Canadian Non-Restricted Firearms Safety Course. The Ontario Hunter Education Course is a provincial course for Ontario residents who wish to get an Ontario Hunting version Outdoors Card and thereby be eligible to purchase an Ontario residents hunting licence. The objective of the Ontario Hunter Education Program is to ensure that prospective hunters meet acceptable standards of knowledge and skill for safe and ethical participation in hunting recreation. The course provides introductory information about: ecosystems and wildlife management, hunting laws and regulations, hunter responsibilities, identification, biology, and management of wildlife in Ontario, hunting techniques for big game, small game and waterfowl, hunting and survival equipment and the hunter’s role in society.
Canadian Non-Restricted Firearms Safety course is an introductory firearm safety course intended for all new firearms users and as a prerequisite for obtaining a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) for Non-restricted firearms. This course provides students with the knowledge of firearm laws and confidence for safe-handling. This course mainly focuses on firearms which are classed as “Non-Restricted”. This group is comprised mainly of rifles and shotguns that are commonly used for hunting and target shooting.
- Individuals under 16 years old must have a consent form signed by one parent or guardian before attending the Ontario Hunter Education Course; and
- Students must present a government issued photo ID when they are checking in for the course.

This is a 2 day course commencing at 8:00 am and concluding at 5:00 pm daily. Students are requested to be at the WGT Consulting classroom by 7:30 am on the first day of the course.
The Ontario Hunter Education course final examination consists of a written exam. The written exam is made up of 70 questions, all of which are “multiple-choice”. In order to pass the examination you must answer 59 of the 70 questions correctly.
The Non-Restricted Firearms Safety course final examination consists of a written exam and a practical test. The written exam is made up of 50 questions, all of which are “true or false” or “multiple-choice”. The practical examination consists of a series of actions that the instructor will ask you to perform with various types of firearms in order to demonstrate that you are proficient in the safe handling of firearms in different scenarios. In order to pass the examination you must get a score of 80% or better on both components of the examination to be able to apply for a Non-restricted Possession and Acquisition License (P.A.L).
Course cost: $265.49 + HST. The price includes the course, course manual, and exam.
We try to limit classes to 12 students therefore bookings are on a first come first serve basis. In order to confirm your spot, full payment for the course must be made upon booking. In the unfortunate event that you have to cancel, we require notification of cancellation 5 days prior to the course start date. A full refund will be given if notification of the cancellation is given in time. Late notifications will be subject to a $75.00 cancellation fee.
WGT Consulting reserves the right to cancel any course offered due to unforeseen circumstances. If this happens, all students will receive a full refund or a credit applied to another class.
WGT Consulting and its instructors retain the right to deny instruction to any applicant without verbal or written notification of the reason for the denial. Denied applicants will receive notification of the denial and their tuition reimbursement in full.
